How does acupuncture work?
The exact mechanism behind acupuncture is still being debated. However one idea is when acupuncture needles as thin as a human hair are inserted in certain areas of the body, nerve impulses are normalized, pain killing endorphins are released, and blood vessels dilate which reduces pain and tension.
Do the needles hurt?
Some people report that they may feel a radiating dull ache, a twitch, or sometimes a heavy distending sensation.
Is there anything that I should do to prepare for my treatment?
What am I supposed to feel during a treatment?
Most people report feeling calm and sleepy once the needles are inserted.
How many acupuncture treatments will I need in order to see results?
Acupuncture is a process in which there is a beginning, middle, and an end to treatment. The number of treatments needed depends on the condition and whether it is acute or chronic. Usually results can be seen within 6-10 treatments however chronic or complicated conditions may require more treatments.
